Jodi & Daniele had a beautiful wedding. Two of the nicest people we've ever worked with! As you can see, it was a traditional large Italian event with over 600 guests. As soon as we were done setting this one up, we had a 250 guest event at the Dearborn Inn that night as well... It was a long day! Both events were flawless... We helped Jodi meticulously put together a GORGEOUS Peacock themed event. We did a beautiful palette of jewel toned Dendrobium & Cymbidium Orchids, roses, stock, hydrangea and many other blooms... The floral popped off of our teal tablecloths and were perfectly accented with our gold chiavari chairs & gold lacquer chargers! It was a breath-taking event!

I have to say...we just started our 9th bridal season and never have any of my clients captured my heart like these two. They are two of the classiest, humble and gracious people I have worked with let alone met. Bobby and Samantha had a lot of heart ache from significant deaths in their immediate family and a lot of frustration during the planning of their event due to cultural circumstances I won't discuss for their privacy that resulted in them canceling their event. After a couple days of really thinking about things, they decided to move forward with their event, but to make it a whole other kind. They decided to hit the road with their event! I was lucky and blessed enough that they wanted to take me with them!

They decided on the Ciccone Vineyards up in Traverse City Michigan. Two words...breath taking. I helped them design a floor plan that worked great. We had a tent erected. Samantha and her bridal party put adorable paper lanterns up in the ceiling. We ultimately decided on two long captain's tables for 50 people each. Samantha had her heart set on a vintage feel with a touch of tradition and organic undertones... We used rolls of pre-matted moss as runners down the centers of the tables for the organic lush look. We used a traditional ivory pintuck floor length linen and natural apple wood captain chairs. We accented with gold lacquer chargers, glass stemmed candle holders, warm ivory pillar candles and small clusters of roses in various vessels along the runner. The centerpieces were our vintage glass trumpet vases with a garden themed topiary arrangement of hydrangeas, vintage colored roses, stock, Green Amaranthus and Seeded Eucalyptus... I had their initials made by a great crafter on Etsy to be used as the focal point of the ceremony site under this majestic Oak Tree. This will always be one of most endering events. Jena and I had meticulously planned every detail of the decor in this event. Jena and Ritchie live in Phoenix so it was a little tough for her to be hands on so she gave me a lot of creative control which I loved. Jena chose a vintage garden theme for her Sunday morning brunch style wedding. They had their ceremony in the atrium at the Royal Park and their reception in the ballroom. The weather was beautiful...it was a perfect event.

The week before her wedding Jena was in a terrible accident and broke her leg so badly she was wheel chair bound. After the devastating realization that she could not hold her bridal bouquet as she insisted on walking on crutches down the aisle, I made a beautiful hand wired garland from the flowers that were ordered for her bouquet and tied it with champagne satin ribbon to the back of the wheel chair. It was a devastating set back, but we embraced the challenges and made a spectacular event! Jena was a gorgeous bride! Professional shots soon to follow... Congratulations Jena & Ritchie!!

Elina and Jordan were married on July 2nd at Meadowbrook Mansion. It was a STUNNING event!! It was a challenging event for sure!! It was 102 degrees that day and of course just as soon as the Chuppah was up, a storm rolled in! I am happy to say we were prepared and opted to use sand bags to give more of an anchor to the already 50 pound bases JUST IN CASE! We wrapped them in white fabric and no one could tell... I am happy to report despite a down pour and high winds, not one orchid or rose came off! Our Chuppah stood proud!! The perfect table setting!!

With the start of the bridal season already in full swing, now is a good time to become familiar with all the little nuances for setting a formal table. Formal table setting is often considered stuffy and outdated. I admit to be one who likes the freedom to put my soup spoon and salad plate where ever I want especially when I am eating a bowl of cereal over the kitchen sink! However, with my love of the vintage and Victorian styles has also come a new respect for the formal table setting. Seeing everything lined up exactly where it should be gives me the giddy feeling of being a little girl playing tea party. There is still plenty of room to be creative with linens, table decor, colors, and the dishes themselves. Rules will vary depending on culture and personal preference. Also, you want to create a beautiful table so sometimes the rules need to be bent for the best overall effect. With this in mind, here is a general guideline for setting a formal table.

The service plate or charger (or dinner plate in my world) will be centered in front of the chair.

Soup bowls and salad plates are generally stacked on the service plate. These are sometimes brought out later.

Depending on your school of thought, cutlery should be one - two inches from the edge of the table or aligned to the bottom edge of the service plate. Items are placed in the order they will be used, beginning from the outer edges and working in toward the plate. Spoons will be placed on the right. Forks are placed on the left with the exception of small cocktail or oyster forks. These will be placed to the right of the dinner spoon. The dessert fork and spoon are placed above the service plate pointing in opposite directions, with the fork tines pointing right.

Knives are placed to the left of the dinner spoon with the cutting edge facing the service plate.

Water glasses go above the dinner knife while the red wine glass is placed to the right and slightly below the water glass. The white wine glass can be placed to the right and below the red wine glass or centered above the water and red wine glasses. A cup and saucer for tea and coffee can be placed on the right, after the spoons.

A bread and butter plate, if offered, has a place above the forks on the left. The bread knife is laid across the bread plate.

Your napkin and place card can be placed to your preference. The most common place for the napkin is on top of the service plate or to the left of the forks. Place cards can be set on top of the service plate or at the top of the table setting.

Petit Fleur has grown this season extensively! We have been blessed enough to bring on two new floral & event designers! I'd like to introduce one of our newest designers... Tehmina Antonelli. Tehmina is one of our October 29th 2011 Brides that has quickly become a friend! Her creativity and eye for design has been a thrill for me during the planning process of her event. When I asked Tehmina to put together a Bio for me about what goes on in her life and why she would want to join Petit Fleur Events, this is what she said...

"I have been an event and floral designer for 14 years. Of those I have spent 10 years specializing in weddings and events. For the last 5 years I have planned and coordinated weddings. There is nothing about this industry that I don't love. I grew up in Europe and have a particular love for European and western floral design. I am extremely detail oriented and want everything I create to be perfect. I am currently in Grad school for Psychology and hoping to one day be finished lol... When I am not working I am home with my 3 boys and husband. Oh yeah and my awesome Lab Shadow".

Our first 2011 Petit Fleur wedding! Denise Bellore and Robert Guha 1/8/11 at Lovett Hall - Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, MI. Corrina & Carrie coordinated this event as well as did all the floral and decor for this event. Denise, our bride created a dynamic fusion ceremony that required a fusion looking mandap! We bounded the open sides of the traditional Hindu arches w/white material drape to give a western flare. We extended the size of the make shift mandap to accommodate the Cathedral length train of the bridal gown during the "phara" around the fire. The Hindu ceremony was conducted standing up followed by the Christian ceremony in the mandap as well. Mandap was provided by Mandavo.

Upstairs in the ballroom, we created a muted gold & silver table scape. Silver chiavari chairs w/silver charger plates w/gold napkins with our Spiral Gold Linen. We worked with festive punches of red within our floral design. We used a lot of gleaming glass, candles and crystals. Thank you Denise and Bob for allowing us to share in your "Love Story". Congratulations!

Since we are a special event design firm we tend to be seasonal... So as my season winds down (we will only be down 3 weeks in December this year then right back into weddings in January), I really enjoy spending this "down" time with my kiddos. The holidays of endless amount of cookies, squirrel bitten pumpkins, my kids begging me to not give their beds to the incoming guests to the black smears of eyeliner from me trying to draw the perfect whiskers and running out of attic space to hide Christmas presents, I dread the constant nagging question that always seems to tear through my ears when I am juggling a gallon of milk, bagels and some Clorox wipes at the grocery store trying to get it all in the cart.... What shall we do today Mommy? This book was an impulse buy at Home Depot at the check out lane. Since my 7 year old's teacher knows I do "party's" she ever so gently gave ME the duty of planning Friday's Halloween Party (of course we have a wedding Saturday). So while I was getting my ingredients together for my crafts to do with the class, I thought I would pass this onto you other Mommies (or Aunties, Daddies or Grammies)... No one should be without this, this Holiday Season.

Paul & Melody October 16th 2010 - Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit

Ok... We are still recuperating from this past weekend's wedding. Wow, what a dozy. We had 10,000 roses, 1,200 hydrangea, 300 stems of orchids and various other flowers come through our mits this past week. It took six people four sixteen hour days to process, construct and execute this event.

Lia Moore of Full Circle Eventi brought us Paul & Melody's event and of course designed it all. It was the most beautiful event I've seen to date. They got married in the Guardian Building in downtown Detroit and the reception was held at the DIA.

The ceremony flowers were Orange Moccara Orchids, High Magic and Star 2000 Roses, Pittosporum, Orange Pin Cushion Proteas built in 6 - 4 ft sections to line the traditional Persian marriage "table" where the ceremony took place. The bouquets were red and hot pink roses and black magic calla lilies adorned with rhinestones. The brides bouquet was cream roses, gardenias and stephanotis of course filled with rhinestones. It smelled amazing and weighed almost 8 pounds!

Dave, The Lighting Guy did an amazing job on the lighting (of course) Lori of the Detroit Institute of Arts seriously worked hard to oversee the setup and did an amazing job doing so. The staff at the DIA never cease to amaze me with their eye for detail. We literally filled a 27ft truck wall to wall with the first "trip" of flowers.

There were 64 buckets of 100 roses each in pink and red in our cooler room.

Once we did the base of the topiary arrangements, we placed them on buckets for staging.

Here you can get an "idea" of how many boxes of flowers we received! You can also see our little Pug "Oscar" who looks a little possessed here standing guard!

After we made a 6ft section, we staged them in the gallery upstairs to make room!

The room was set up in an "X" formation where black chiavari chairs lined each side sweetly adorned with these adorable organza sequined chair slip covers with a black satin skirt finished off with a rhinestone buckle. Lia picked out these mirrored tiled glass mosaic charger plates with an adorable hot pink cocktail plate, black glass champagne and wine glasses paired with a damask white china place setting. She did an amazing job with the details and theme. She had linens custom made in California and shipped in.

The head table had 2 - 6 ft sections of over 1000 roses!!

Down the center of the tables were black organza ruffled runners with 136 ft of hot pink Hydrangea, red and hot pink Roses and hot pink Cymbidium Orchids. We built 24 - 6 ft sections and placed them on the tables and placed our 24" trumpet vases with the topiary of 300 red and hot pink roses on top every 10 ft. Each one of these 6 ft pieces weighed 100 pounds (2,400 pounds total) and the rose topiary arrangement weighed 60 pounds each (960 pounds total)! We finished them off with crystal garlands and used our rhinestone encrusted crystal candles holders in varying heights and pillar candles. It was beautiful.... Simply breath taking.

Lia arranged real person "strolling tables" and a fabulous cocktail "lounge" area for after dinner! The cake was covered in french macaroons and hand painted! There was no details left unturned!

I want to thank my staff for working so hard on this event and making it a perfect success. I am forever grateful for you guys xoxo...

ABC Meeting October 13th 2010 - Lafayette Grande, Pontiac

Petit Fleur was a proud sponsor of the American Bridal Consultants October meeting held at the Lafayette Grande in Pontiac. We dressed black iron dress forms with organza fabric, rich red roses, classic greenery and then gave each "Lady" her own rhinestone necklace... We covered the tables with our burgundy satin with black damask velvet on them and our burgundy bustle chair covers. Sprinkled some red rose petals on the tables and finished them off with some crystal & rhinestone candle stands and floating candles. We received a lot of compliments and it was a lot of fun!

In the words of one of my favorite photographers and who I can actually call a friend of mine Andrejka of Andrejka Photography...It's that time of year again... time for my favorite wedding event... one can't even call it an expo... its a time for anyone even slightly interested in getting married on Mackinac to come explore everything the island has to offer... from one on one tours of the different venues ... to meeting all of us fun event professionals... to pub crawls... live music... champagne toasts... and DJ's mashin' in up ... there are a variety of events everyday ... so its impossible to be bored!! I'm telling you there is not one bit of annoying pushy people.. loud overhead speakers announcing horrible raffle items... anywhere to be found!

We attend this "expo" every year and learn so much as well as network with some amazing "upper" Michiganders. Enjoy the photos of what we saw and did...

Ayana is to date one the most amazing clients I've ever been blessed with. She put together the most adorable and tasteful details for her event that really showed hers and TaJuan's love for eachother and their personalities. Of course her wedding was great because of the venue. The Colony Club where we just so happen to be one of their preferred vendors, is always beautiful. Of course the staff their are more like friends than anything else.

We used our white wrought iron trees for this event with purple Panda Orchids draped on every branch. We then added some bling with our crystal garlands and added some romance with hanging tealights. The centerpieces just popped off our gorgeous plum satin tablecloths which paired perfectly with the Colony Club's gold chiavari chairs. It was simply beautiful...

We created these beautiful trees made of wrought iron garden stands built with Birch, Manzanita & Curly Willow branches, Lemon Leaves, Blue Hydrangea, Purple Agapanthus, Lavender & Jade Roses, Lavender Stock, Moon Shadow Carnations, Foxtail Fern, Asparagus Fern, Purple Panda Orchids, Green Dendrobium Orchids & Dried Lotus Pods. We have actually had two clients for next year grab up this design for their events... These are turning out to be a hit for the 2011 season!

These were so beautiful and looked awesome with our Moss Green crushed satin table cloths and the mahogany chiavari chairs.

I fell in love with the Fort Street Presbyterian Church in downtown Detroit the moment I walked in. Loretta the Church Coordinator is a magnificent woman who is very passionate about producing the perfect event. The Pewabic tile aisle is awe inspiring! We lined the aisle with 22" glass cylinder vases with pillar candles in it nestled in a rose petal border along the pews. It was so warm and romantic.

The ballrooms in the Cadillac-Book Hotel are so stunning. We created centerpieces of cream & taupe Sahara roses with cream hydrangea, cream & baby pink spray roses in gold garden urns. We alternated these centerpieces with 24" trumpet vases with manzanita branches, white dendrobium orchids and crystal garlands. Petit Fleur provided champagne pintuck table cloths, mahogany chiavari chairs which looked amazing with the gold chargers. It was a beautiful event. Congratulations Kristen & Aaron!!

Carrie Bieniek of Petit Fleur Events did the day-of-coordinating for this event and with the weather we were all on our toes! Having to move the mandap indoors last minute really sent us all wheeling but of course it went off without a hitch!

Petit Fleur did the hot pink lighting, flowers, hot pink crushed satin table linens, gold chiavari chairs, candy buffet, mandap set-up complete with the ceremonial furniture, aisle decor, aisle runner and fabric draping. We also gave Mona and Sharad two cocktail areas with our white cocktail sofas and cocktail tables. It was a beautiful event! Congratulations Mona & Sharad!!

Why Do Brides Carry Flowers?

Everyone has seen a beautiful bride carry flowers down the aisle, but few people know the significance behind the flowers. While it's true flowers add a touch of glamour to a wedding, there are deeper reasons their presence.

History -
According to the Huffington Post, during the 15th century, people took their yearly baths in May and would generally get married in June. Just to be safe, brides carried bouquets to mask the smell of body odor.

Function -

Flowers symbolize a number of emotions, values and wishes. In the past, brides carried flowers or herbs because they were believed to ward off evil spirits. Today, brides carry flowers to follow tradition, and to add beauty and elegance to their wedding.

Types -

Brides use a variety of flowers for different reasons. According to 800florals.com, roses represent everlasting love, lilies represent virginity and purity, orange blossoms represent marriage and fruitfulness, zinnias represent lasting affection, and ivy represents fidelity.

Benefits -

In addition to carrying on ancient traditions and superstition, flowers add a touch of color and beauty to a wedding. Likewise, carrying flowers adds a nice fragrance to the room.

Fun Fact -

According to OurMarriage.com, during earlier times when people had significant fears of demons, brides carried smelly herbs and spices in their bouquets to ward off evil spirits.

Why are wedding dresses white?

Queen Victoria chose white not because it symbolized purity, but because she wanted to show her people that she would run the country in an economical way. White was a much less expensive color to make than the colors typically popular for wedding dresses at the time (red, black, and purple). Plus, it gave her the option of using some lace that she already owned, rather than having something specially made.

So basically, the white dress was originally a political move.

This weekend my staff and I will be traveling to Kalamazoo to do the wedding of Raveen Rai and Keran Kullar! It will be a traditional Indian wedding and we are just so excited! We will be delivering 350 Silver Chiavari Chairs and beautiful Royal Blue Satin Pin-tuck table cloths. The centerpieces are bright and lavish consisting of Purple Orchids, Hydrangea, Green Hanging Amaranthus set atop modern tables. The tables will be covered in hot pink rose petals. It is going to be just gorgeous!

I was so excited to do this wedding inside the Kresge Court of the Detroit Institute of Arts in downtwon Detroit. I love all the history and character in this place! Once again Lauri Philippo and her staff at the DIA were amazing and we as a team worked through some last minute floor plan changes flawlessly!

Their personal flowers were made of White Mini Calla Lilies, Escimo Roses, Blue Hydrangea, Blue Delphinium, White Freesia w/Tai Leaf Collars.

The flower girl basket was a smiple white wicker basket that I filled with White Mini Calla Lilies, Escimo Roses, Blue Hydrangea, Blue Delphinium and White Freesia.

Rick lost his Mother suddenly two weeks before their wedding on July 2nd. Needless to say the family was devestated. The groom wanted to memorialize his Mother in his own special ways. So I came up with ideas to incoperate her into the decor aspects of the ceremony and reception. Petit Fleur donated a floral wreath made of Purple Lilac, White Lily of the Valley, Spray Escimo Roses, Blue Delphinium and White Freesia.

Rick's Mother collected Waterford Vases and so we used one of her vases for a few sprigs of flowers to place at her place setting. The Groom also decided to place her corsage on her chair at the ceremony...

The table cloths were Navy Blue Satin Pin-Tuck. We had White Satin bustle chair covers w/Silver Organza Sashes. The tables were finished off with Cobalt Blue Glass candle globes, Silver Charger Plates and White Linen Napkins. We used Globe Style centerpieces in Silver Urns with Escimo Roses, Blue & White Hydrangea, Blue Delphinium, White Freesia and White Casablanca Lilies on one half the tables and then sets of cylinders with crushed glass on the bottom of the cylinders filled with stems of Blue Delphinium on the other half of the tables.

Greg & Suzy Armstrong - July 10th 2010

Ok, so I am two months behind in my BLOG entries, the only excuse I have is we have had a wedding or two every single weekend since late April and are booked solid until mid November. This 2011 season, we will start right back up in January!

I had a really good time planning Suzy's wedding! Suzy & I became fast, personal friends and bonded over planning her wedding. In the end, the event was awesome and went so smoothly! It was well worth the effort and sweat equity that went into everything. Suzy and Greg had their wedding and reception at Pine Knob's Carriage House in Clarkston.

Suzy was a beautiful bride with an amazing vision and she spent a lot of time planning her decor. I had these vibrant "burnt-ish coppery orangy pink" linens in a deep pleated satin made especially for her event. They coordinated amazingly well with her bridesmaid gowns from David's Bridal in the "Guava" color.

Her flowers were awesome! Her bouquets were made of Yellow Billy Balls, Burgundy Gloriosa Orchid Lilies, Fern Curls, Green Cymbidium Orchids, Black Baccara Roses, Yellow Roses, Coral Roses, Pin Cushion Protea with the handles of the bouquets wrapped in Vibrant Green Apple Satin Ribbon.

Her ceremony was out in the gazebo behind the Carriage House so we added a splash of color to the rich color of the decking in the gazebo with a bright mixture of more vibrant rose petals and wrought iron floral stands with simple arrangements of Roses & Orange Gerbera Daisies with Curly Willow Branch accents. These were moved after the ceremony to the fire place mantel for an added touch.

The centerpieces were sets of cylinder vases w/amber water in them topped with a floating candle nestled in a bed of rose petals. The other half of the tables were tall cylinders filled with curly willow branches adorned with hanging rose blooms, Green Cymbidium Orchid blooms & Crystal Garlands.

Cake was also AMAZING!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE working with Dan at Flower to Flour in Royal Oak. He made a gorgeous cake for Suzy and Greg. He decorated the cake with large vibrant Green Cymbidium Orchids, Fern Curls, Roses & Burgundy Gloriosa Lilies.

Again, I feel blessed I was able to share with another amazing couple their special day. Good Luck in everything you two do!!!

Huy-Linh & Rolaine Dang - June 19th 2010

I can honestly say I have never had this much fun designing an event with any other client in 7 years of weddings. This couple was amazing! Rolaine Ilanes and Huy-Linh Dang were married on June 19th 2010. Their reception was at the ever so amazing Lovett Hall, at the Henry Ford in Dearborn. We have a special history and bond with their staff so we really enjoy Lovett Hall or the museum, Eagle Tavern, The Pavilion, the Martha Mary Chapel and the Anderson Theatre.

The flowers were my favorite part (of course)! The bouquets consisted of Sahara Roses, Escimo Spray Roses, Fern Curls, White Sweet Pea, White Hydrangea, White Gardenia’s, White Peonies with an antique Gold Ribbon on the handles.

We built 7 foot trees from birch and curly willow for our bride who wanted an organic, whimsical forest "theme" to be carried through. Rolaine & Huy really enjoy the Upper Peninsula and traveling to other places and she wanted that feel carried through her event decor. We used an earthy smoky taupe floor length table cloth in a deep pleated satin for the guest tables. We adorned the trees with long stemmed white orchids, white delphinium and a warm ivory snapdragons. We intertwined asparagus fern garlands through the branches to look like moss climbing a tree in the forest.

Birch trees were special to them, so we used birch bark covered vases for half the floral arrangements and tree trunks for the other half of the floral centerpieces. We used a mixture of White Hydrangea, Creamy Escimo Roses, Sahara Roses, White Sweet Pea, White Gardenia’s, White Casablanca Lilies and White Peonies adorned with whimsical Maiden Hair Fern, Ming Fern, Tree Fern & Asparagus Fern.

Rolaine was so excited to see what I came up with in the end for our design that she couldn't wait and snuck into the ballroom for a sneak peak. As I was fine tuning some of the centerpieces with my staff, I heard Rolaine scream and shrill! She then promptly yelled across the ballroom, "Corri I love it!! It's amazing! I would so make out with you right now if I could!!". I gladly reciprocated and graciously accepted the compliment! Rolaine's humor, personality and spirit made everything more beautiful that day! She is an amazing person.

Rolaine & Huy had the most adorable favors made and placed on the guests place settings. Since they are literary professionals, they chose small yellow school notebooks with pencils inscribed with "Enjoy this DANG pencil" on them neatly tied with a twine ribbon to the notebook. Of course since the Groom's last name is Dang, that made this detail that much more humorous!

Rolaine had us build a "a book forest" for her cupcakes. There was a small two-tiered cake surrounded by 350 cupcakes on large stands. Again paying homage to literacy we placed some of the cupcakes on books and decorated everything with moss covered pebbles and stones. This was adorable!

I am so grateful I had the opportunity to design this event with Rolaine & Huy. It was very memorable. I wish many blessings to them in their future! I cannot wait to see the professional photos of this event...my Blackberry just doesn't seem to capture all the magic! LOL!

Bill & Katherine Patzelt - April 10th 2010

Bill & Katherine Patzelt held their reception at the Iroquois Club in Bloomfield Hills. It is an intimate and beautiful setting. Their wedding flowers consisted of Purple & Lavender Sweet Pea, Green Hypericum, Deep Purple Lisianthus, Green Gladiolas, Salal, Green Cymbidium Orchids, Jade & Sterling Roses and Black Magic Miniature Calla Lilies.

Katherine designed her own centerpieces. We used simple sand-blasted manzanita branches nestled in the middle of the guest tables adorned with purple Dendrobium Orchids, Green Cymbidium Orchids, Jade Rose (green) Blooms and Sterling (lavender) Rose Blooms on half of her tables. On the other half of her tables, we used tall glass cylinder vases with curly willow branches. We again used Purple Dendrobium Orchids, Green Cymbidium Orchids, Jade Rose (green) Blooms and Sterling (lavender) Rose Blooms to decorate the branches.

Peony: Love or Torture?

Many of my brides come to me with a stack full of magazine photos with bouquets and centerpieces they love. I would say that at least 75% of those photos showcase, in one way or another, the peony. Peonies (pronounced pee-o-nees) are beautiful, fluffy flowers that truly encompass what a “wedding” flower should be.

But alas, these elusive flowers are difficult to get. They are only truly in season 4-6 weeks in the year. And when those 4-6 weeks will be? No one knows except for mother nature. Peonies are considered to be in season late spring or early summer which technically is mid-April to late May or early June. That’s really not a long time. You can get them a few weeks sooner or later, but you would be paying a pretty penny for them.

A lot of time I feel like peonies are another form of torture.

I am often the bearer of bad news. I have to tell these hopeful brides that the chances of getting peonies will be unlikely (though not impossible). The good news, though, is that I can offer up some other deliciously fluffy flowers that nature has graced us with.

Ranunculus (Spring flower available from March to April or May). Comes in a variety of colors including white, pink, hot pink, red, burgundy, orange, and yellow.

Garden Tea Rose (Mostly in season during the summer months including June, July and August). These come in a lot of colors also including white, pink, red, burgundy, peach, yellow and orange.

Dahlia (Summer Flowers available late May to October). These come in a variety of colors, and the later in the season, the more colors there are. Most popular ones are orange, red, pink, yellow, white and burgundy (dark red).

Gardenia (available year round). Comes in white.

Hydrangea (available all year round). Colors include pink, green, blue, lavender and white.

Lisianthus (in season during the spring and summer months). Colors include white, pink, and lavender

So if the in-season of peonies doesn’t happen to fall under the 6 weeks you happened to be getting married, hopefully one of these flowers can take its place!

Power Flowers

Many of my clients coming in right now for the fall and next year events are looking for an alternative to the boring old "rose". Well here are some options of what we can do when the rose just won't cut it anymore or....some inspiration that the rose is still the BEST option for affordability and COLOR!

Do not let the cleavage distract you. Okay – you can look. But once you are done check out the beautiful orange flowers. There are a variety of orange roses, coxcomb and seeded eucalyptus pods.

My favorite alternative to the rose is calla lilies. Here are some great photos of calla lily bouquets.

DIY Escort Card Tree

It’s been a little while since our last DIY post, and I know you are all itching for a new project. Well, the wait is over! A client of mine brought this fabulous idea to us for a tree of colorful round escort cards. Using colored paper and paint chips allows you to develop your own color palette, and the results are really charming and will be unique to you and your wedding.

Here’s what we used for this project:

- A package of multicolored heavy weight construction paper (about $10 for 87 sheets of 5×7)
- A bunch of paint chips from Home Depot (or maybe it was Lowe’s, but it definitely was not the mom and pop paint shop down the street who we love and support)
- Paper Shapers Nesting Punch, we used a round one but there are lots of different shapes out there ($15ish)
- An endlessly useful fine point Sharpie, of course, you can use any pen you like.
- Some decorative branches (prices vary depending on what type of tree, but start around $8 a bunch)
- A small hole punch.
- A ribbon or string to hang the place cards from the branches, although we opted to put them on the tree without either.

Once you have your paper and/or paint chips, just start punching out shapes.

Also, at this point you should punch small holes at the tops of your circles (don’t wait until you’ve done the handwriting, lesson learned).

Hopefully, you have someone whose handwriting you are fond of to help write the guest names and table numbers on your circles.

Arrange your branches in a vase, basket, bottle… however you wish. Then begin hanging your escort cards. As I mentioned before, we just put the branches right through the little holes, but you can use string, ribbon or whatever you like. Our choice gave a more austere look to the final tree, but ribbons or twine might make it look more romantic, nostalgic, pretty…

NACE 2010 Tabletop WOW!!

WOW!! Last night was my first NACE Tabletop WOW!! Now that it is over I CAN FINALLY TALK ABOUT THE DETAILS! First of all I want to thank every one that came over to my table last night and showed some love!! I had a blast! I know on several occasions last night I said never again, but secretly I was thinking next year, IT IS ON, I can't wait!!

Fauzeen my in-house photographer partner at Q Studio registered to do a table a couple months ago. Her and I were doing a table! My first Table top WOW! table. This year's theme was movies. So I quickly decided to jump into the race doing "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory"...Old School Style. So I obsessed over the details. Everything was based on a chocolate fountain being a part of the centerpiece. On Tuesday morning I found out my chocolate fountain had fallen through due to a scheduling conflict by the company who was partnering with me for this year's table and rent's them out. Afraid of spewing chocolate all over people and having a "Prop Malfunction" by trying to do it myself with a rented or store bought fountain as well as now having no team, I decided to change my theme to something I could produce ALONE. Alice In Wonderland...

Because of me wanting to be under the $500 budget catagory, I knew I couldn't spend labor dollars on having my employees help. So I knew I would be alone. After the decision to change themes 24 hours before the competition, the first call I made was to LeTrice Penn, owner of LePenn Designs who was custom printing my stationary for my table, what she came up with I think is the detail that made my table over the top!!

I ran to my nearest thrift stores and bought all my antique and vintage teacups with mix matched saucers. I bought teapots, doilies, antique books and several mix matched vintage white milk glass vases, bowls & pedestals. I got a pocket watch and beautiful toss pillows in random colors and textures. By six o'clock Tuesday evening I had my Alice in Wonderland design going full steam ahead. I bought playing cards, tea bags and chocolates at Costco. Borrowing some antique chairs from my Father, two dining room arm chairs from Fauzeen's Mother, a vintage garden chair from my neighbor along with her moss garden rabbit, I was really pulling together my vision.

For the rented portion of my design, I pulled things out of my showroom Wednesday morning before I left for Table top WOW! I pulled two linens right off my display tables! I used my burgundy with gold embroidered floral vining table cloth with a champagne sheer overlay with more floral embroidering and petals sewn to the surface. I packed up my gold acrylic chargers, white china plates w/gold banding, my amber glass water goblets, clear twisted stem champagne flutes, mix matched flatware, a gold & silver Chiavari Chair right off my display tables and off my showroom floor.

The candy colored flowers I had already ordered for my Willy Wonka Factory scene were in. With it being too late to redesign or reorder flowers for the Alice in Wonderland theme, I had to make due with what I had. I had a 7ft tree that I had made for my Open House on April 1st sitting on one of the display tables. Using two more bunches of curly willow and white birch branches to fill it in, we made an AMAZING 9 ft. tree from the table that spanned 7 ft wide!!!! Using salal, asparagus fern, baker fern and Israeli ruscus I made a beautiful canopy in the tree. I used moss to cover the base had a little hole in the base and a sign pointing Alice to Wonderland.

I wanted the real feeling of a garden-based Victorian tea party. The real Alice in Wonderland, without the Walt Disney feel. I absolutely LOVE what came of a huge disaster...but then again as a floral and event designer, that's what we do. I had my moments of panic watching the teams of multiple companies with mulitple people working on their designs together knowing I was all alone....lol!! The best part of my design was that it was all done for about $280 out of my pocket. With the rental and set up/labor it would cost a client around $450 to buy!! It was seriously an intense competition. I am just really excited and proud of what I came up with. I wanted to share these pictures I took on my Blackberry, the professional ones are soon to follow!! I was awed by the talent of the professionals who did tables. It was a great event and really a lot of fun. See you next year at Tabletop WOW!!!

I am interviewing and hiring some new floral designers which I am soooo excited about. I will intorducing them very soon! Almost seven years ago, I started Petit Fleur Event Flowers & Decor out my home in downtown West Dearborn. I envisioned a small, simple and intimate company where I could work with clients one on one. I really wanted nothing to do with the bustle of a full floral company. I adore pretty things. I am a girl's girl through and through so weddings were my passion.

As we have grown, it has been a real challenge having a warehouse to house all of my inventory, a pretty showroom as a creative playground for inspiring and designing amazing events and a functional production space for my designers and I to create our works of art all under one roof.

Aali & Fauzeen Qureshi - Q Studio International & Lifestyle Photographers are now in-house with me in our amazing storefront. I am so blessed to be working with them. They are fast becoming true friends. To have an amazingly talented pair of photographers in my space now to archive my growth...what more can I say?

In the short time since I opened in downtown Royal Oak, we have once again out grown our retail space. I am so excited to announce that April 1st, we will open our expansive floral & event design studio and showroom. I am thrilled to say with the size of our new storefront we are able to have full ceremony set ups including an Indian Mandap set up along with our full reception mock ups with full scale tables and chairs set for eight decked out to the nines with our own CUSTOM-MADE specialty linens, chair covers, chiavari chairs, place settings, special lighting and our unique centerpiece ideas sure to inspire every client.

Our Grand Opening is this Thursday night, April 1st from 7:00 - 9:30. We have well over 200 people who have RSVP'd and they are still rolling in. We are doing 5 tables with full fresh floral design in 5 different themes. We are doing a covered cocktail area, custom lighting and so much more... Well hello there! I have been a terrible blogger this past month. As most of you know we have been renovating our new storefront in downtown Ferndale. We have been wallpapering, hard wood flooring, electrical wiring and of course city halling... After getting all my "I's" dotted and "T's" crossed with the city for our Grand Opening, I am so proud so say, Let the fun begin!! Our signage was approved, passed all our inspections and painted the building. Our neighbors are great! We have already made a lot of friends. I am in love with Pinwheel Bakery at 220 West Nine Mile in downtown Ferndale.

Ann, owner of Pinwheel Bakery brought in some AMAZING shortbread cookies in an array of flavors and her "to die for" French Macaroons to welcome us to the 'hood. Pinwheel Bakery is one of a VERY FEW bakeries in the Metro Detroit Area that makes French Macaroons from SCRATCH and the right way! Not to mention the way they taste....

She does fabulous wedding cakes and cupcakes, one of her flavor combinations for her cakes is Chardonnay Cake and Raspberry Mousee Filling...mmmm!! Ann will be doing our sweets table for the Open House on Thursday night! So make sure you stop by to try her cupcakes and Macaroons!

Carnations...why such a bad reputation?

Despite their undeniable beauty, carnations have gained a bad reputation leading many people to think of them as no more than a “cheap flower”. Who can forget that episode of Sex and the City when Charlotte and Carrie scoffed at the idea of a man bringing carnations on a first date? I think we all are still tortured by our high school days when Carnations were spray painted and given to us on cheesy holidays by the weird guy in 4th hour. Well… that actually reflects the opinion of most women about this flower. In many wedding forums I’ve seen how brides ask for approval before considering using them for their big day. It actually seemed like it was a crime to even think of carnations as an option for your wedding flowers! But should we hate them just for being more affordable than other flowers? My answer to this question is definitely no.

It is hard to understand when I meet with a client and in one breath she expresses budget to be a concern, and then in another will not consider carnations as a way to stretch the buck when that is suggested!

It is important when selecting any decor aspect of your event to keep an open and creative mind when making your decisions. Trust your designer to make suggestions and then ask to see an example of what they are thinking before you write something off. Floral design has grown leaps and bounds as far as modern, cutting edge designs since the dreaded 1980's and 90's. Of course you must pick a florist or event designer that shares your design tastes. There are still some florists who are very traditional in their design. That being said, please take a look at some of my favorite carnation pieces.

My clients are asking what do I think the latest floral craze will be this year. Well these two bouquets are really what I am seeing my clients wanting this season. The first is a bridal bouquet which consists of a monochromatic, clean and elegant collection of bridal bouquet of all lime green cymbidium orchids. A perfect fit for that Urban Modern look.

Another urban modern option is a monochromatic palette using gorgeous lady slipper orchids, green hyperium berries and lime green spider mums, finished with a touch of copper ribbon. This is a stunning choice for any bride or bridesmaid in a high style urban wedding. This event's overall look was stunning!

13 Things your florist WON'T tell you!

I came across this on my Yahoo Home Page...I loved it! Enjoy!

1. If you want more flowers for your money, find a florist in your recipient's town and call him directly. But it's harder than you think: some florists in the yellow pages and at the top of your Google search are national businesses masquerading as local ones. They even buy local phone numbers. So make sure you look for a physical address in town.

2. Our smartest customers ask for a bunch of those packets. Most of us will gladly give you extras.

3. Put away those scissors, which can crush the stem. Instead, use a sharp, non-serrated knife to cut a quarter of an inch off the bottom of stems, at an angle. While you're at it, cut off those leaves below the water line. They breed bacteria.

4. Looking for a way to jazz up your red roses? Try pairing them with purple statice or heather. Or ask us: "What can you put in that will really make her roses stand out?"

5. Believe it or not, weddings are not that profitable for most of us, mainly because of labor costs. But we're banking on your future business. Once we do a wedding for you and do it right, you're a customer for life.

6. Thanks for continuing to buy flowers, even in this economy. We really do understand why you're choosing floating bowls instead of $50 centerpieces for your wedding. And why you're sending your wife a mixed bouquet every week instead of the $50 roses. But that's part of the reason our business is down by 8 or 9 percent.

7. What's trendy? Tropical flowers in a geometric vase without a lot of greenery, mounded arrangements of just one type of flower, and woody branches with fruit or berries.

8. Speaking of Valentine's Day, how about thinking outside the box? Lots of women would love a vase filled with red tulips still in the bulb.

9. A box of dead flowers for your friend's 40th birthday – ha! – that's funny. But you'll have to look somewhere else. Come on, my name goes on that.

10. Do you like cold baths? Neither do flowers.

11. Do us a favor and choose your bridesmaids' dresses before you come to us about your wedding. But after spending an hour with you picking flowers, it's a bit of a drag to do it again six months later because you ended up picking different color dresses.

12. Don't buy your wedding flowers at Costco then ask me to design them for you. Would you buy your steaks there, then bring them to the caterer to prepare?

13. Call to complain because your flowers died after just three days, and we know you probably didn't even add water to the vase.

Top 10 Things you DON'T do at a wedding!

A client sent me this, I LOVE IT and AGREE wholeheartedly with the entire thing!! I got some laughs from this so I decided to pass this along for your entertainment...enjoy!

Don't Be Fashionably Late
As the song says, get to the church on time! Allow enough time to get to there 15 minutes early or more no matter what weather, traffic, or other acts of divine intervention pop up. Print out directions to both the ceremony and the reception (if it's at a different location). Many a wedding has been hampered by guests who got lost and showed up an hour late.

Don't Produce Sound Effects
While at a wedding and reception, turn off your Blackberries and cell phones, put them on vibrate, or better yet, don't even take them!

Don't Talk Trash
It may sound obvious, but it happens all the time. No matter how big or how loud a wedding is, things get overheard. So, be on your best and most polite behavior. No gossip about any of the other guests. No complaining out loud about anything -- whether it's the food or the long line at the ladies' room. And no comparisons to other weddings! As far as the bride and groom are concerned, this is a perfect day, and so it should be!

Don't Come Bearing Gifts
Whether you're planning on gifting the happy couple a Cuisinart or cold hard cash, do them a huge favor and don't bring it on the wedding day. If you do, they have to keep track of it and haul it home at the end of the night. Send the gift ahead of time, or after the actual ceremony -- at a time when they can really relax and enjoy it.

Don't Dress Down
Whatever you choose to wear, make the effort to look your best for the bride and groom. They'll appreciate that you got dolled or duded up for the occasion. If the invitation doesn't specify dress code, put in a friendly email or call to the bride, groom, their parents, or attendants to get more info. Black Tie means you've got to dust off that long silk dress or rent a tux. If it's an outdoor affair, there may be more leeway, but get details on the location, so you can come prepared (because it's isn't fun to be traipsing around in the sand in your stilettos!).

Don't Bring Mr. or Ms. Random
If you're single, choose your date carefully. If it's someone you've only been out with once, it may not be the best idea (could be awkward for you, your date, and the newlyweds). Same if it's someone you recently "sort of" broke up with. Weddings are intimate affairs and bringing in a stranger should be done with thought. Let the bride or groom know if you decide to come alone so they can seat you with other fun "ones!" And as much as you may love your kiddos, don't take them if children aren't invited.

Don't Steal the Show
Wedding ceremonies take all forms -- from religious to poetic, musical, or humorous. Whatever the vibe, let the bride and groom set the tone and follow their lead. If you're normally a loud, life-of-the-party type, bring it down a notch and let the wedding couple stand out. If you're a weeper, bring tissues and sit where you can sob without disturbing the I Do's. If the ceremony includes religious rituals, find out what you should do (or not do) ahead of time.

Don't Pig Out
If food is serve-yourself, avoid the buffet line stampede and wait until the crowd dies down. Also, avoid going back for thirds. Take a break and save room for cake! Seconds might be okay, once you've seen that everyone has eaten. If the food is served sit-down, eat what is served without requesting substitutions or omissions, unless you have a food allergy. Otherwise, pick delicately or chow down, but don't gripe that you "don't like fish." Worse comes to worst, you can hit Burger King on the way home!

Don't Drag Out Skeletons
If the bride blushes, it should be from pride, joy, or sheer love. Not because someone just stood up and told a humiliating story about the loser she dated in high school! Ingratiate yourself to the lady and her groom by avoiding any potentially embarrassing or juvenile behavior -- no bawdy jokes, no tales about their dating habits or exploits, no overdrinking, and no overly sexy dancing. Have fun, but don't have it at anyone else's expense.

Don't Stockpile Party Favors
At the end of the night, as you're saying your thank-yous and farewells, avoid the urge to hog all the super-cool (or yummy) party favors! You don't need to take some for people who weren't able to attend. You don't need extras. Take one for yourself, unless someone in the wedding party urges you to do otherwise.

Alexia & Michael Mansour - March 28th 2009 Colony Club Detroit

I just got these amazing photos from Alexia & Michael's March '09 wedding at the FABULOUS Colony Club in downtown Detroit... The staff at the Colony Club still talks about how fun this party was when I stop in to do an event. These are some of the most amazing clients I've had to date...

Alexia's bouquet was White Escimo Roses, White Hydrangea, White Freesia, Mini White Calla Lilies & White Stock. Alexis adorned her bouquet handle with a miniature portrait of her late Father who with her in spirit... Her bridesmaids bouquets were Jade Roses and White Escimo Roses.

Alexia designed her centerpieces and I loved how they turned out. She had a "Winter" theme of white flowers, fresh birch branches and white wrought iron trees accented with soft fresh hues of green and white. We had tablescapes of White Calla Lilies, Escimo Roses and White Hydrangea arranged in cylinder vases in staggered heights.

On the alternating tables we adorned 4' white wrought iron trees with hanging votives, white orchid blooms draped with strands of crystals. She set this off using crisp, classic white linens warmed by the elegant gold chivari chairs.

We displayed the bridal party bouquets in cylinder vases, adding drama to the head table with submerged orchid sprays illuminated in cylinder vases and water by floating candles. The birch branch arch was illuminated with warm white lighting and decorated with fresh white Carnations and white Dendrobium Orchid sprays.

A classic, beautiful event for a couple that shares the very same qualities! Thank you again for allowing me to be a part of your special day! Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Mansour on the birth of your precious Cedella Michelle...

We did a fabulous event this past weekend at one of my TOP 3 venues in the State of Michigan...The Colony Club in Downtown Detroit. I am so glad I got to kick off my 2010 bridal season there. It was a traditional Jewish ceremony and the Chuppah was awesome (if I may say so myself). It was made of chiffon and was a demanding 8'x 8'x 8' and was illuminated by warm golden-hued lighting.

We did centerpieces of Mini Yellow Calla Lilies, Hot Pink Hydrangea, Shamrock Mums, Green Hypericum, Hot Pink, Orange and Yellow Roses, Green Dendrobium Orchids with Curly Willow Sprigs. The centerpieces were placed a top 27" pilsner style vases with submerged Yellow Mini Calla Lily and a Green Dendrobium spray inside the vase.

We put up a beautiful Birch Branch and Curly Willow arch, accenting with lighting and adorned with Hot Pink, Orange and Yellow Roses, Green Dendrobium Orchids, Hot Pink Hydrangea & Yellow Mini Calla Lilies.

The reception was fabulous as I absolutely love to work with Nicole Lakatos, the Director of Sales & Special Events at The Gem & Century Theatres and Colony Club and her wonderful staff. They are a key to our successful events there. She was generous enough to name us as one of their preferred vendors! I wanted to say congratulations to the New Mr. & Mrs. Jonas and thank you again for allowing us to be a part of your special day!

I have been blessed with my clients, but it means so much more when your clients were more like friends than clients. Tera was a bride who knew exactly what she wanted but couldn't quite get it out on paper. It was important to Tera that she broke away from the "cookie cutter" style wedding that EVERYONE else had. She wanted cutting edge, abstract design and took great care to plan every detail meticulously. I wish more brides were brave enough to "invent" the event of their dreams like Tera & Bryan did. I grew a lot artistically from the designing of the Caruso Wedding. It was nice to have Tera & Bryan grow with me and my company. This event was close to my heart and I am proud of the outcome. Congratulations Neha & Dan!! We did two amazing events this weekend and I wanted to share some photos! Today Neha & Dan got married at the Dearborn Inn in Dearborn. I traveled to Chicago a couple times to meet with Neha to meticulously plan her decor with her. They had two ceremonies, a Christian Ceremony and a Traditional Indian Ceremony. We brought in the Mandap and used vibrant jewel toned Roses, Stock and Orchids to set the lavish scene. The reception decor was striking if I may say so myself! We used Trumpet Vases with huge arrangements of Black Magic Calla Lilies, Green Hydrangea, Jade, Orange and Hot Pink Roses with Purple Dendrobium Orchids, Plum Satin floor length linens, gold bustle chair covers accented with blue and hot pink lighting. We did it!! Congratulations to Le Salon’s Alexis Williamson for the amazing event she put together, The Creme de la Creme event debuting the "Carrie Gown" by designer Vivenne Westwood from the Sex in the City Movie was an amazing success. I was honored to be a supporting sponsor of the event and provide floral, lighting, linens and décor. Here are some fabulous pictures of the evening. Boy did we have MEDIA with us!!!! THANK YOU to the Detroit Athletic Club! They really pulled out all the stops for us. The event was well coordinated and they accommodated our every need with a smile and grace! Their globally infused hor devours were magnificent!! The staff at the DAC, obviously take pride in providing a fantastic experience for their guests. Although I was a sponsor of this event and performed as a vendor, later in the evening I became a guest. My experience from all aspects with the DAC was nothing short of perfect.

These are the centerpieces I did for the runway tables.

The Valentine Vodka bar was awesome! Rifino Valentine Founder and Master Distiller certainly has his craft down pat! His vodka was well received among the guests!

This was the cocktail area I did for the event. There were a few of them through out.

Shutterbooth in Downtown Royal Oak was a blast!! I never got to experience that before, however when my staff and I went in, we decided what happened in Shutterbooth STAYS in Shutterbooth!! You HAVE to get Shutterbooth for your event. Be sure to ask for Nolan!

Mij0-a Event Make Up Studio & Spa did all the make up and hair for the girls in the fashion show! May I say, not only is owner/artist Gjysta Nuculaj a wonderful person, her talent and flare for her craft is awe inspiring. I refer ALL my brides to her!!

Panache Entertainment was phenomenal! A first option I will refer to my clients when seeking a professional entertaining alternative to the a DJ for their event.

Petit Fleur has found a friend in Jon Jordan, Fashion Editor/Reporter for Channel 4 WDIV Detroit. Jon has been more than generous by giving us several on-air mentions and well as two on-air opportunities this past week to visually feature my work on LIVE TV!

AW - What is something we can do at home this summer?
CH - My "Edible Arrangement Segment" is about centerpieces you can make out of the produce department.
The first, I made one in a large martini glass with Tabboleh Salad in it with Small Pocket Pitas surrounding it with Asparagus Spears & Green Onion Spears standing out of the salad as Flower Stems adorned with White Dendrobium Orchid Blooms which are edible. The Second is my "Americana" themed arrangement in honor of Memorial Day Weekend. Red Strawberries, Red Apples, Blueberries, Blackberries, Purple Grapes all neatly and dramatically displayed on shish kabob skewers accented with fresh White Dendrobium Orchid Blooms which again are edible:-). The give-a-way is on Channel 4's website under CONTESTS. It is for girls (or guys) to register to win an original creation of their choice or a replica of Carrie's Bouquet for their wedding.

Update: I made the bouquet yesterday which will be featured on Channel 4 News Sunday & Monday to promote the "Creme de la Creme" event on May 22nd at the Detroit Athletic Club that Petit Fleur is sponsoring. I wanted to post the picture because of course I want to brag, but also a lot of my girls (you know who you are!) are needing some inspiration for their Pink color palette without the usual Pepto Bismol Bubble Gum OVERLOAD! LOL!!!

I used variegated Pink/Green Hydrangea, variegated White/Pink Tulips, semi-closed Pink Roses, Lipstick Pink & Black Magic Mini Calla Lilies, Black Dahlia's, Burgundy Mini Cymbidium Orchids hand wired to crystal stems framed in Israeli Ruscus.

May 2nd Roostertail Wedding

We just did an amazing table scape for our May 2nd wedding and I wanted to share it with you!

Sara & Jason had their reception at the Roostertail Restaurant in downtown Detroit. It was a beautiful event! Sara and Jason choose to do a variety of floral arrangments not only in a stricking color palette, but in varying heights and flower types. The colors just popped off the matte black linens! With the beautiful large ceiling to floor windows framing the Detroit River in the background, the entire setting was awe inspiring.

Here are the two centerpieces we did. We used 24" cylinder vases with two-tone large Dendrobium Orchids, two smaller arrangements with open Roses in shades of pink accented with Pink Acrylic Ice Chips on half the tables. The other tablescape for the other tables was a set of three cylinder vases in three staggered heights. Each cylinder consisted of large open Hot Pink Stargazer Lilies & Pink Asiatic Lilies.

Wow! OK, so I've had time to recoup! I have had so much to get caught up on so.... I apologize for my delay in posting juicy details and pics of the 2ND Annual "Bridal Style" Showcase that was held on Saturday, March 7Th. It was a SCREAMING success! We had over 100 guests walk through our doors!

Aesops Catering served hor devourers of crab & lobster stuffed croissants, cheese, fruit and chicken florentine. Pronto! on Washington Avenue in downtown Royal Oak provided us with the most amazing torte's in Lemon Chiffon, Strawberry & Mocha. The girls from Vintners's Cellar of Royal Oak served several wines of course hand crafted in their GORGEOUS winery located on Fourth Street in downtown Royal Oak. This table was adorned with an abstract centerpiece of Red Hanging Amaranthus, Salal & Blush Lisianthius.

Tina Shelton from EvenTi did a fabulous sweets table in hot pink & purple!

We did my favorite color in lighting, HOT PINK!

This was a HUGE hit for a table setting. My girls LOVED this one! Shades of warm gold, cream, antiqued yellows & soft whites made this an unabashedly romantic table setting. The combination of Million Star, Orchids, Roses, Calla Lilies & Gerbera Daisies made this a true eclectic combination of new and classic floral design.

This table setting was striking! Another hit with our girls. The velvet Red Rose petals popped of the Tiffany Blue Rosette Table cloth! The black and white scroll accents gave it a classic & modern touch. The petal filled glass cylinder vase topped with a fabulous lamp shade which glowed warmly from a floating candle was the perfect finale for this setting!

This was a Crushed Satin Tablecloth in a fierce orange with red undertones. We paired this with Red Orchid blooms delicately hanging from our Wrought Iron Trees. We embellished them with strands of crystals & hanging glass tear-drop votive candles. This was another popular hit!

This table setting was a matte Satin White tablecloth with a cool Ice Blue Organza Overlay over it. We had a beaded silver charger paired with bloom filled glass pillars topped with floating candles. Our Pilsner vase was filled with majestic heads of Blue Hydrangea and Bella Donna Delphinium! Our featured bouquets here were Hydrangea, Sweet Peas & Roses in vibrant shades of Spring & Summer.

We showcased our 8 New Colors in Matte Satin Bustle Back Chair Covers as well.

I was happy to showcase our new Shabby Chic Antique Candelabras! A staff member gave these to me from an Estate Sale and I had them restored. A past bride gave me a gift of Swarovski Crystals to embellish these with. They are adorned here in Larkspur, Hydrangea, Roses & Hanging Amaranthus. They are so beautiful!

I just wanted to share some photos so you could see how amazing everything looked. We had so many compliments on how classy and elegant the hall looked, just the look we were after! Corri, the chairs, linens and flowers were amazing! Everything was perfect!Everything was amazing and we were so thrilled. Laine saved the day a million times during the day (even making a toss bouquet last minute!) and we were on cloud nine all night. This reception was held at The Inn at St. John's in Plymouth in the Atrium, one of my FAVORITE reception settings. This was the last I am excited to say, we get to do this venue often! Julie was of Arabic decent and David of Chinese decent. This event was rich with different cultural aspects which made the event so much more exciting! We used large trumpet vase centerpieces with Large White Calla Lilies. The bridal flowers were Miniature Mango & Red Sox Calla Lilies accented with Red David Storei Orchids. We used Gold Chivari Chairs with a crushed satin table cloth in Champagne. We accented each place setting with Gold Chargers, a crisp white dinner napkin each adorned with a Red David Storei Orchid Bloom...it was truely an elegant event! Again, Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. David Chen. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day!

I have been looking for alternate options for brides this year to help with budgets in this current economy. No one wants to have centerpieces where design looks like it was dictated by cost. So....I FOUND THESE! They are BEAUTIFUL 40" white metal trees which comes with 5 hanging glass votive holders w/candles and over 20 strands of multi faceted crystal danglers! I am proud to say the Scola/Shenduk February 7th, 2009 Wedding was a success! The ceremony was held at the awe inspiring Cathedral of The Most Blessed Sacrament on Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit. I simply get goosebumps when we do events in this magnificent place. The bridal flowers were Creamy Eskimo Roses, Ice Crystals and Miniature White Crystal Blush Calla Lilies.

The reception was held at Club Venetian in Madison Heights. This newly renovated banquet facility quickly became one of my favorite venues to work in. Although this was the first time we did an event there, I anticipate when we get to work with them again. Bill, the operating manager/owner puts an active touch back in personal service. Him and his staff were extremely accommodating and attentive to their clients needs and worked closely with us to ensure a very successful event! They were fabulous! There were beautiful Black Organza overlays, White Porcelain Chargers & Place Settings. The centerpieces were fresh Baby Birch Branches Flocked in Sterling Silver Floral Paint in our crystal trumpet vases. We hand strung Fresh Red Rose Petals into small Canopies with Crystal Danglers hanging elegantly from the Branches. We then blanketed the center of the Guest Tables with a thick puddle of Fresh Red Rose Petals and to finish off a lavish Table Scape, we added the beautiful hand made "Snow" covered pinecones made by my very creative bride Nicole to the center as well. We received great feedback on our floral decor and table settings! Again, Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Nicholas Shenduk!! Thank you for allowing us to be a apart of your special day! Budget Friendly Centerpiece!

This weekend is the first of our 6 weddings scheduled for February. I want to share a photo of the Mock Centerpiece we just put together for our February 7th bride. She LOVED it!! I can proudly say it is an original (to us) design and was VERY budget friendly! I can't wait to see how this looks on her tables. We are pairing these with miniature silver pine cones , crystal place settings with silver beaded charger plates and fresh red rose petals on black matte satin table clothes.

The biggest surprise for the guests will be the 3 foot by 6 foot silver hand made sleigh to house the wedding cake and wedding cards! That was QUITE the project! My client had a family friend make this for them and when the final result was delivered it looked more like a silver snowmobile than an elegant sleigh! LOL! After we laughed (and cried) a little while, we re-worked some design schematics and WOLLA! we had a perfect, elegant and awe inspiring piece of decor SURE to spark a comment or two...

We will be doing entry way trees with a soft white lighting to offer a "trail" of Winter Wonderland trees for guests to walk through before entering the ballroom. I am sure this event will be perfect and I am excited to execute our design! Nicole & Nick were one of my favorite couples. I wish them nothing but the best! I am thankful I was allowed to part of their special day!!

Ok, so this is our first post to our new blog. I hope to use this new tool to keep up-to-date with my fellow event specialists in my area as well as with our clients.
